Garden Tool Design

This project was completed for a class, Product Design 1. The challenge was to redesign a garden tool. After observing the way many garden tools have the exact same type of grip, I explored changing the way a garden tool is held based on how it is used. I designed a cultivator and a shovel. The cultivator has a wider grip and the shovel has a more curved grip. Below are some initial sketches, orthographic drawings,process pictures, and pictures on the final models. The final models were created with hard foam. The hard foam was cut on the band saw, assembled with nails,epoxy, and body filler, and finished with Spackle, sand paper, and spray painted. Final detailing was completed with felt.
